Unbuckle your belt and take a deep breath, for you’re about to digest a large serving of awesomeness and glory. Comical singing group Norazo take a unique approach to reinventing Korean trot music. The duo (Jo Bin and Lee Hyuk) mix tons of techno nuances, heavy guitar riffs and fast-paced beats to drive you flippin’ insane. Wield the power of rock trot!
Superman MV [English Subs]:
As you watched that lovely music video, you were probably wondering what on earth it had to do with the song.
Well, nothing. Norazo is a comical twosome who parody Korean pop culture through the art of music. In this case, they synchronized their hysterical lyrics with the dynamics of a Korean drama. They’ve also drawn inspiration from the “Nobody” MV by the Wonder Girls (Link). What other aspect of Korean culture is a more obvious target than their beloved K-pop?
It seems as if they parody the exact lifestyles they live through their musical humor. Regardless, Norazo have garnered a hefty fan base because their audiences have realized that their music is actually really, really good.
They are undeniably talented, and now they’ve taken rock trot and their outlandish talent to a whole new level. On April 19th, Norazo released their 4th album 환골탈태 and really focused on kicking ass with their hardcore finesse. Take the opening track “Rock Star” – it’s one of the most intense songs in the entire album. It comes out, guns blazing, with some sick guitar action reminiscent of Japanese animes and man-to-man combat video games.
That song ALONE won me over. Lucky me, though, because Rock Star is followed by 13 (yes,13!) additional songs which are spewing with even more awesomeness. There are some tracks that are more definitive of trot, while others could easily be mistaken for electro-dance anthems. Such as “정신줄을 놓자 “. But if that’s not your cup of tea, no worries! They throw in “하바바 움파 “, a cutesy song which sounds like it would be a perfect fit for a K-drama (or even better, a J-drama). Am I right?
Any ideas for what Norazo has chosen to poke fun at in their latest MV to their title track, “구해줘/Help Me“?
