[Review] Take The Air EP by Dear Cloud

For those of you feeling like the bubbly and electrified mayhem of Kpop is getting overwhelming, I have something here that might just help disperse all the hysteria for a while.  After reading over at Luminosity that a group named Dear Cloud was releasing new material, I was interested enough to figure out just who they were before they made their comeback. As I listened to their repertoire, I seriously got excited for this one…

And finally, Dear Cloud released their EP ‘Take The Air‘ this week, and man does it make me feel like taking a breath of fresh air on the real.

I describe their style as something more on the alternative side of the rock genre. Dear Cloud is a sophisticated band who possess a very natural strength in their music. But aside from the refreshing sophistication, this EP is absolutely emotional. You’ll end up allowing yourself to entirely connect with Dear Cloud’s subtle melodies come the 3rd full song on ‘Take The Air’.

Just listening to this without any knowledge of what Nine (vocalist) is actually singing, it managed to rail in some unexpected emotions I hadn’t felt in a while. For instance, I was drowned in melancholy when I first listened to ‘무너져’. It is graceful and poetic and simply gorgeous. So much so, that even if the actual song may not be as moving on paper(it probably is), it definitely had me recollecting my past and sifting through my memories in quite a distorted and emotional mess.

In a sudden shift from my usual reviewing format, I’ve provided links below to audio of all the songs on Dear Cloud’s latest EP below. Do listen to them, because well, it’s definitely worth it. I may not have been there since their first album back in 2007 (Dear Cloud) or 2008’s Gray, but I’m now an avid fan and I’ll be bumping this EP along with their earlier material to my heart’s desire all weekend long.

As an added bonus, lead vocalist Nine released a solo song which accompanied the release of her very own book (how cool is that!) and you can find that MV on the Vodpod widget that way >>>
