[Review] Somebody to Luv by Big Bang

Big Bang recently released their new Japanese EP – one too many Japanese releases for my taste to be honest – but here is ‘Somebody to Luv‘, the second track aside from ‘Beautiful Hangover‘.

This song is just asking for someone to shoot it for all the auto-tune. And yes, it’s become highly redundant now, but everyone will keep chanting for it to go away until it finally does.

By the looks of things, that wont be happening for a long ass time, so let’s just move beyond it for a second.

I’m actually not complaining. At all. Processing works and sometimes it doesn’t, but here I find myself just accepting it because I think it flows well with the tempo and style of the song. This song embraces the electronic genre pretty well. It doesn’t sound forced or too heavy, making it a decent dance track.

If this hadn’t been a group song, it would have fit perfectly in GD‘s solo album ‘Heartbreaker‘. He processed the hell out of his voice for that album, but the production and identity of each song was pieced together really well.

This is another good song and if I find out that GD helped produce it, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Somebody to Luv‘ is much better than ‘Beautiful Hangover‘, which was absolutely lifeless.  This at least sounds super playful and effortless. I’m still missing the epic-factor you can find in their older material, though. Just saying.

  1. Yah! I’m not the only person who doesn’t like Beautiful Hangover! Gosh ‘Somebody to Luv’ is so much better but thing is I still won’t find myself listening to it much which is sad because I love BIGBANG D=

  2. What ever happened to the old Big Bang? “We Belong Together” and “Forever With You” were classics. All this electronic-pop stuff is kind of underwhelming…

I think it depends on how they produce this electro-pop stuff. It sounds way too minimalistic for me. It needs more depth and excitement. It’s just too bare.

Thanks for dropping by!! I kept telling myself, “gee, it would be cool if Tuc was active outside of Ningin.”

      And now you are! :D
