[Review] ‘Why Are You Being Like This?’ by T-ara

T-ara brought upon us one of the most God awful songs this year with “I Go Crazy Because of You“.  It was a hybrid between a crappy Britney Spears single and some sort of sound you’d hear a possum make in the middle of a busy road before it realizes it just bought itself a one way ticket to the afterlife.

T-ara is the one girl group who I have zero interest in exploring because, honestly, they don’t stand out anymore in the least bit out of the rest of the Korean pop girl groups.  And there are a lot of those. “TTL” was alright along with several (rather great) songs from “Absolute First Album“, but other than that, they haven’t done as much as make me bat an eyelash.  It’s a shame, really. Even shitty girl groups amuse me, but this group has become boring as all hell.

On to the single.  “Why Are You Being Like This?” was released today along with a music video full of glitz and glam.  They look gorgeous, I’ll say, but the MV is basically a rip off of Girl’s Day’s “Nothing Lasts Forever“, except the choreography is ten times less difficult.

It’s kinda hard to judge their vocals based on the recording because it has as many layers as one of those psycho wedding cakes they bake on Ace of Cakes.  What I can pick up, though, is that they’re singing in half of an octave and nothing more.  And rightfully so, since they haven’t properly proven themselves in the vocal department, plus they’ve gone and recruited  the twin sister of that HORRID SINGER FROM CO-ED.  Oh, T-ara, what will I do with you?

Okay, the song.  It’s pretty damn melodic, the beat is great, and the energy level is at a surprising high.  It definitely outshines “Bo Peep Bo Peep” and “I Go Crazy Because of You“, but at the same time it’s highly forgettable.  It doesn’t really go anywhere and there’s a spontaneous point when it sounds exactly like “IGCBOY”.  I literally had one of these moments:

Then it suddenly goes away, clouds part, rainbows shine and life goes on.

I vote they go back to the ‘electro pop-dance your ass off’ style they had in “Absolute First Album”. That ish was off the hook.  (link)

Thoughts?

ps. Eunjung, I loved you in Coffee House.  Acting is totally your thing.  Ditch these girls and go be flawless elsewhere.  Trust me on this one.

  1. …And here I am saying that their first album was one of the best ones I ever heard from Korea. I started jumping when I heard this song but I guess it’s all about opinions :/

    • Don’t worry, I won’t judge you.

When I reviewed “I Go Crazy Because of You”, I admitted to liking some of the songs on the album “Breaking Heart”

      Like this one:

      and this one:

I liked them for a second when they had me convinced of owning the electo pop style like no other…and then they went and kind of let me down.

  2. I actually really enjoyed “Like the Beginning” by them, but overall I just really enjoy Hyomin. That’s probably mostly because I am able to watch Invincible Youth on my cable and I love her personality. I also enjoy her voice when I get to hear it.

    But that’s just my opinion.

  3. Like The Beginning and TTL are the only T-ara songs that really do it for me (and now Lies, the ballad version, which I’m listening to right now). They just bring out so much boring material. As individuals I like them enough, but they don’t do much for me as a group. They do always look flawless though, so I’ll give them a 10 for presentation. This song is okay though.

I wonder how they’ll do on the charts – I Go Crazy Because of You was terrible, but they won like 3 chart awards! And managed to be one of the top 10 best-selling female artists of the year with that album. I fail to comprehend how exactly they do it.

    P.S. Awesome Hongki/Jeremy gif :)

    • “I fail to comprehend how exactly they do it.”

it’s korea. I stopped trying to understand them when they somehow allowed Rainbows and Unicorns to sweep the nation.

      *barf*

    icwudt

but this song basically tried waaaaaaaaaaay too hard to match the success of its predecessor, “I’m really hurt”.

while echoing the chorus of TTL praises, the only other t-ara songs I more or less give the time of day to are “good person” and the aforementioned “I’m really hurt”. oh, and my crappy song guilty pleasure, “I go crazy because of you”. (which is why it’s a guilty pleasure.)

but honestly, what everyone else said was spot on. t-ara is just a ho-hum group. the least they could do is try to start some big fails like singing covers of kelis songs they otherwise have no business singing.

  5. I vote they go back to the ‘electro pop-dance your ass off’ style they had in “Absolute First Album”. That ish was off the hook.

Totally agree, I liked TTL and No No No from their “Absolute First Album”. But everything else that came from T-ara after that just didn’t do it for me.

  6. I only really “listen” to four T-ara songs:

    1. TTL
    2. I Go Crazy Because of You
    3. I’m Really Hurt
    4. Good Person

    Everything else is complete trash.

What is your opinion?
