Here at McRoth’s Residence, I don’t have much of schedule set up for my reviews or any fancy structure to the things that happen here. I just pretty much review things when I feel like it. I may, however, start letting you guys know what content to expect and how much of it in upcoming posts. For instance, right now I’m planning on writing up a little something on HoMin, GD&TOP (when they release their album) and B2ST. Fun stuff!
On to Ga-In.
OHHH Ga-In. I love her and her approach to the Korean music industry. Her solo EP was gorgeous and pushed her and the Brown Eyed Girls into a league of their own.
After listening to her latest release (“Bad Temper“) I had to take a breather because I couldn’t handle how beautifully produced it was. I mean, just that beginning instrumental transitioning into this catchy tune with a splash of frill. I like the way it all works. Then something crawled out of the depths of my memory and began drilling to the beat of this song…and then it struck me: I’ve heard this before. Like, all of this.
And sure enough, I was right. Two seconds of a memory scavenger hunt, and I figured out that “Bad Temper” sounds pretty damn close to Cheryl Cole‘s “Parachute“. If you haven’t heard it, listen to it below.
They’re not identical, but there’s an undeniable similarity between the two. Of course, Cheryl’s is musically underwhelming and she’s too busy doing that sexy-talk thing she does in all of her songs to show off any singing ability (if it exists), while Ga-In’s moves a little quicker and she plays with the meter here and there, which is a nice touch and, overall, does it better than the Cole.
If I had to choose, I’d take Ga-In’s version on this recycled piece of work only for the added dose of character. However, I am a little bummed now because all I think about when I hear her song is how blatantly similar it is to “Parachute“. Of all of the people to munch off of, too. Cheryl? Really?
We don’t know if this is plagiarized. We do know, though, that this song is popular. Since we’ve crossed pop cultures, I’ll go ahead and say that I’d take Ingrid Michaelson‘s take on “Parachute” (which she wrote, btw) over Cheryl’s – meaning I don’t like Cheryl (at least 90% of the time, I don’t).
If Ga-In’s producers come out saying this is a cover or something, I’ll be all over this song again, because it’s really well done and has the best take on the melodies. Hell, I actually think she (and the Brown Eyed Girls) are the best pop girl group in Korea solely based on their creativity and balls to step out of the box.
They deliver top notch music with amazing production and awesome concepts and I totally hate it when other uninspiring idol groups get showered with undeserved praise and glory because Kpop believes ‘quantity = quality‘.
Girl, please.
By the way, when are Jea and Miryo getting their solo? I’m waiting.
Thoughts?

ugh, things like this always ruin my enjoyment of tracks. i definitely prefer Ga-In’s to Cheryl’s though. I wonder if they didn’t realize that it was so similar beforehand and decided to release it as a bonus so that it wouldn’t affect her CD sales…
Anyway, i second the Jea-Miryo sentiment. Though rumor has it that there’ll be new BEG material next month, so we might have to wait a while.
I does sound similar to Parachute, but I like Ga-In’s over Cheryl’s. I have been patiently waiting for Miryo and Jea. Maybe it’s so epic they didn’t want to overshasow Narsha and Ga-in lol
