“This song in itself defines ‘epic’ in every sense of the word, which is interesting, considering its simple composition and structure. On paper, this song should be no big whoop: you’ve got a tooting instrumental, chants from beginning to end, and a handful of raps scattered here and there. Really, nothing out of the ordinary in K-Pop.
But here’s the detail that takes “Superman” from ho-hum song to utterly mind-blowing — it carries the perfect distribution and utilization of Super Junior’s talents.
Every member’s interjection, nuances, and even the chorus’ uniformity – it all falls right into place. The fact that they sound absolutely superb is all the more reason to gush over this song.”

…..SHUPER HORICCCCC. Officially my favorite Super Junior song ever. Except for maybe “It’s You”. Oh wait — and if “Sorry Sorry Answer” never existed. Then it totally would be my favorite.
Oh, and how gorge does Shisus look in that album art? Sometimes I feel like they don’t even bother styling the other 64 members because they just give Siwon a loin cloth and know it’ll get instant sales. Poor Donghae. ;)
Haha, did you just mention the ‘one of my favourite boybands, ever’ comment because of ELF backlash? You never struck me as the… SuJu type (despite the influx of Siwon on your blog. ) Plus the mention of ‘how talented these guys are’ in a Super Junior review by a music critic was unseen to me until now.
I pretty much agree with your review- for once I feel like Super Junior MADE the song, and the song didn’t make them. It’s like, if it was any other 13 member boyband the song wouldn’t seem anywhere near epic. That’s a good sign for a band, if they can make a simple song work in their favour- who knew SuJu had it in them.
But your comment about the line blurring between the rappers and the singers. How so? I actually thought the line in vocal prowess more distinct than ever. I mean, only 4 of them actually sang their verses (KRY I forgot the guy after Ryeowook’s name ;_;), and the rest just… rapped. Not that the rap wasn’t a killer or anything.
But definitely a fav SuJu song of mine- it gives me inspiration to memories their names!
haha, not at all. They ARE one of my favorites. For various reasons, obviously. But in no way did I intend for this review to be some kind of olive branch to the moronic backlash from Mr. Simple. I actually think these things and wouldn’t have written any of it had I not meant it. Of course, when I actually like a song, I tend to gush, spazz, freak out, and so you find that occasionally as you read it.
And talented they are. I mean, I’m not going to bite the bullet and write that I think only six of them are actually talented while most of them are useless, because that’s kind of pushing it and it would never pass with my editor, but yeah, sure they’re talented.
- about the lines blurred – to me, the whole song felt like a never ending chant. It was basically a cry of their awesomeness, and there were moments where I heard members (wookie, for example) ‘rapping’ instead of full on singing like usual, so that’s what I meant.
Thanks for the comment, and I’ve always loved Siwon! (always…)
Out of curiosity, which 6 members do you think are talented? Kyuhyun, Yesung, Ryeowook, Donghae, Eunhyuk, Shindong/Hangeng?
