The week of SXSW is one of the most exciting times here in Austin, TX. From the countless bands that pass through to the hoards of people that crash in town – the SXSW energy is literally palpable. There’s an air of excitement (mixed with booze) when you’re here and that alone is almost worth the travel to the good ole’ heart of Texas.

As Austin welcomed global talents into its streets, one of the bands that was on my “I’ll be damned if I don’t see them live” List this year was the kind souls of Galaxy Express. I had interviewed them before their arrival (here), and made a mental note to see at least one of their shows live. Considering that they came all the way from Seoul, South Korea, it was too good an opportunity to pass up.
Luckily, I made it to Galaxy Express’ Aussie’s show on Thursday March 15 with Kim of American Kpop Fans, where we tossed back some beer, ate some nasty mushroom things, and met the band in person. To say that they lived up to my expectations is something of an understatement. Galaxy Express know how to rock the hell out, and while the crowd was relatively small, the band still managed to put on one stellar performance after another.
It was great fun seeing them live and being able to get up close and personal with the band – too close, actually (I ended up blowing out one of my ears during one of the songs. Whoopsies).
Overall, it was an awesome experience and witnessing them put all other bands to shame with their psychedelic, punk-rock energy. It’s something I will be looking forward to at next year’s SXSW festival.
