If there was a ballad release that really struck a chord with me this year, it’s this one. For years, K.Will‘s been running the gamut as a top tier balladeer and his artistry returns in beautiful measure in ‘The 3rd Album, Pt. 1.’
One of the most important aspects of this album is not so much the heart and soul of the music, which there’s a lot of, but the way K.Will has crafted vessels for his heart and soul to live on. While not a balls-to-the-wall up-tempo maestro, K.Will has certainly managed to excite with several of the tracks in this album. In Korea, it’s common practice for gifted vocalists to refrain from approaching bolder colors in their music (and subsequently litter their discography with heavy ballads), but K.Will has brought a host of strong elements to empower his performance.
“Come to My Crib” and “Hey You” both ensnare with their light-hip-hop and rich R&B styles, completed with glorious melodies sung by K.Will in what are some of his most engaging pieces to date. There’s a tight and precise kick in his singing, the effect of which is multiplied when he slips into these intriguing skins in diverse compositions. The features, too, like rapper extraordinaire Beenzino, raise the stakes with decorated rap sections that strike the perfect note against K.Will’s soaring lead vocals; and man, do they ever. The album moves in a passionate dance so to speak, and every stride is realized to completion.

‘The 3rd Album Pt. 1′ encompasses all of K.Will’s strengths as a singer and displays a taste level that I can only call sophisticated. There’s just a lot to enjoy here. So much so, that picking it apart becomes difficult once these songs get a hold of you.
From the powerful “Butterfly” to the engaging lead single, “Please Don’t…“, K.Will wins big with this one and one can only hope that there will be an encore in Part 2.

This is definitely one of the best ballad albums of the year. K.Will just proved that ballad albums don’t have to be boring and sad. And yes, I’m now looking forward to Part 2!

Well i’m super late on this one but good lord what a glorious album. ‘Hey You’ is just so much perfection, one of the best songs of the year imo, and not even a single! You pretty much summed up my thoughts on the album nicely, I even would have scored it exactly the same.
